Zum ewigen Frieden

DE · German

Kant's peace treatise of 1795, read in full in the original German: the six Preliminary Articles that end the state of war, the three Definitive Articles that found a lasting peace — republican constitutions, a federation of free states, a cosmopolitan right to hospitality — and the two Appendices in which Kant demands that politics finally answer to morality. A short introduction frames the treatise; after each chapter a brief summary collects the main ideas. For anyone ready to finally hear the little book that invented the idea the United Nations is built on — the question of war and peace, answered 230 years ago. Long after the last chapter, one feeling remains: peace is not given, it is made — and you have heard the case made.
